The Three Pillars Of Exposure: Aperture,IOS,Shutter Speed

1. What part of the body should we closely relate aperture?Eyes
2. Finish this sentence - the smaller the Aperture the more light, the higher the Aperture less light.
3. In your own words tell me how aperture impacts Depth of Field?

 F16

F2.8

1. If you were assigned to shoot at Blue and Gold night, which was earlier this month, what shutter speeds (slow, medium, fast)  do you think you would have to shoot at the following events that night I would like you to answer the question for the following two situations:

At the beginning while the sun is still partially up and the courtyard has reasonable light

  • a.) the dunking booth
  • b.) the food eating contest
  • c.) the rock climbing wall
  • d.) someone working at a booth
  • e.) the DJ/MC working at the middle of the circle
  • f.) the Diamonds performance.

Towards the end when there is no sun and it is dark so there is not enough light to see from one end of the courtyard to the other.

  • a.) the dunking booth
  • b.) the food eating contest
  • c.) the rock climbing wall
  • d.) someone working at a booth
  • e.) the DJ/MC working at the middle of the circle
  • f.) the Diamonds performance.

2. List the THREE settings your camera has regarding setting shutter speed (these are found at #5 on the Shutter Speed website. Explain how each works - DO NOT COPY AND PASTE, use your own words.
*Manual
*Shutter Priority
*Aperture Priority

Once you are finished reading, please go to google and find me an example of a photo taken at ISO 200 and a photo taken at ISO 3200 or 6400. Post both on your blog and label them

 IOS6400
 IOS3200
IOS200

1. What are the advantages of shooting with a higher ISO setting at a sporting event like a night football game?Because it quickly capture the shot at the point you might want it

2. What suggestions did the author make about using a low ISO? Because when ever there is too much light keep it at the low IOS better quality of the image
3. What suggestions did the author make about using a high ISO? To use high for when there is not enough light

Do: Now it's your turn - tell me which ones look the best for:

  • F4 looks best at 1/60 sec, the lighting is bright and the background is blurred so he subject is in focus.
  • F5.6 looks set at 1/30 sec, lighting is great but the back ground is some what blurred but you can still tell who or what the subject is.
  • F8 loks best at 1/15 sec, the lighting is great, just the back ground looks weird
  • F11 looks best at 1/60 sec, the lighting is dark but the image is so clear.
  • F16 looks best at 1/30 sec, the same as F8: 1/60 , lighting dark but image is clear.
  • F22looks best at1/15 sec, light is dim and the image is somewhat clear.

Rules of Photography part 2

Leading Lines
Looking at the lines leading up to the Eiffel  Tower, our focus is drawn to the lines in the front leading up to the main subject which is the Eiffel Tower. But leading lines doesn't mean using straight line you can use zigzag curved or diagonal lines. Leading lines are used to enhance the photo.

Mergers
In this situation the water from the water fountains coming up is merging the subject,(Eiffel Tower). A merger is anything that is cutting off the edge of an image.

Pattern
This is the inside of the Eiffel Tower Its made up of a diamond patter everywhere you look. Pattern is used to make images look focused and clean like in this image.

Rules of third
Although the main focus is on the Eiffel Tower, You are still able to see the back of the city to give it depth, and shows that even though the Eiffel Tower is the key part of the image you are still getting a view of how tall the Tower is.

Framing
In this image the framing is the boarding of the door. by using the door framing it helps isolate the outside to focus on the Eiffel Tower.
Depth
in this image depth is used by being layers from the water , to the town, then to the Eiffel Tower.so technically from low to high.
Cropping
in theis image you can tell the Eiffel tower is the main forces because its not cluttered with any outside interacting really going on.
Balancing Elements
in this image balance is used by focusing on the tower but not focusing on the tower, is merge red with a person taking a photo.

Background
in this image the gab ground is [;win giving the light leading to the tower at he bottom lighting up to the Eiffel Tower.

2. Why is this theme worth devoting time  and effort to capture? Why would other students care about this theme?

expressing who you are in the public shows who you really re on the in side

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages to using a phone camera to do this project?

the advantages is changing the color and sharpness disadvantage is make is some out clear

4. What are the advantages and disadvantages to using an SLR camera to do this project?

having to take more quickly and most likely to come out more clearer than just changing the color

5. Should we use phones or SLR cameras for this project? Why?

i think we should use the slr cameras because not matter how many time we move on accident its most likely to to come out better and be brighter .

Africa Project

My reaction to the photo's we're excitement because i love animals and especially cheetah's and the giraffes . i like the cheetahs because they are pretty and the giraffes because they look cute and they're tall

This is my favorite because i like how the mom guards her little cubs and the baby cheetahs look so cute

Well this is another one of my favorites because they don't look fool grown they look like baby ones which make them even cuter

The rule he uses is balance because since its in black and white he houses the day time to capture the brightness for the photo but the animals fur is gray or black which makes the back ground look bright and focuses on the animals

Nick Brandt

a.     What kind of camera did he use? Used a Pentax 67ll with only two fixed lens
b.     What is his reason for taking the photos? He likes showing that animals have a big state of being and he like to show they're emotion
c.     What is his hope by taking these types of photos? To him all animals and living creatures are beautiful and  he wanted to express that his photos.

"To me, every creature, human or nonhuman, has an equal right to live, and this feeling, this belief that every animal and I are equal, affects me every time I frame an animal in my camera. The photos are my elegy to these beautiful creatures, to this wrenchingly beautiful world that is steadily, tragically vanishing before our eyes."

Academic Shoot Reflection

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get the photos following the rules I set out for you?
- No one would let me take photos and they would just keep staying and saying not to be taking pictures of them , and it was so complicated.

2. What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly.

-Trying to focus on a per on without have the capturing noise go off. because when ever i did a picture and it didn't come out right and had to take another one the main person would be nervous and wouldn't let me take the photo.

3. If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photography?
- I would ask the teacher if i can sit at her desk for a while so the kids would think i left but i didn't and i would move around without people dying to watch me.

4. What things would you do the same?
-Asking teachers permissions and make the kids feel comfortable with me and have a bubbly personality again!

5. When you go out with your next set of prompts, which rule do you think will be the easiest to achieve?
-Framing will probably be my easiest rule but only depending on were we go, but most likely framing

6. Which rule do you think will be the hardest to capture?
-Rules of third , it was harder for me like i said kids would tell the person i taking the photo and stuff then they would get all nervous

7. What rule are you still not totally clear on and what can you do to figure out what that rule is?
-Probably balance it took me awhile to find that photo.

Academic photo shot preview

This image represents fill the fame because its shows the whole experiment and what interaction the the teacher and the students are having. The reason this is fill the frame is because the experiments shows in the whole frame.

This photo represents action and emotion because these  people are helping the homeless, the emotion shows on their faces they are happy that people are helping them and are grateful for what they are receiving because its better than nothing . The action is the people helping the home less.
This tells the best story because the girl is actually paying attention in her work and she is getting it done. The angle on this shot is what tells its ll you can tell she is really focused.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

Photo shopping is bad because your not telling the truth on the newspaper and the people are believing it and thats what think what really happen. plus and if  it is a lie its costs you, your  job and then what are you going to have nothing because you photo shopped 1 picture and now your career is done. In journalism that is the number one rule is to not lie in your photos.

Most unethical

I thinks this photos is unethical ,  because they photoshopped her teeth and they're not showing the real her and in the photo(left) she don't look the same, and on the (right) photo that looks more like her. it looks like that photo is real and not fake as much on the (left). the look more happier on the (right) than the left anyways they should have just stuck to the one on the right.

Unethical

This unethical because this is Oprah. But is this her body? i don't think so yeah she is slim but this is not her body this is Ann Margrets body. i believe they did this because Oprah is supposed to be on the cover but she didn't have the body. so the took a photo of a body and just put her head on it. and you can tell the did because Oprah's face looks chubby some what and the body is skinny.

National Geographic Warm Up

this is my favorite photo because i like these kid of animals and they look like they are having fun and the fat and chubby so its cute. Plus every time i see these animals on t.v they're always being attacks and right here they're happy! i would like the take photos of people not looking at the camera and taking random ones because i find those the most interesting

Joe O'Daniel

this is a respected photo, and sad photo because this is John F Kennedy Jr. and he is saluting his father along with the other officers and you can tell that the little boy is strong and had  respected his dad and he going to take care of the family.
